In general it is tough for a leader to be around enough other leaders to pick this up just through discussion, so I believe a leader has to be a reader and a student. In addition, I can’t see someone leading in a field they understand nothing about.

No matter how creative and brilliant one is, frequently the best ideas and thinking are going to originate from somebody else. A leader needs to be able to recognize that, have good individuals around who have these ideas.

None of the above assets will work for a leader if she can’t speak or compose in a way to convince others that they need to follow along, join the group, get on board.
